Radiation Assured Devices™ (RAD) is Awarded Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Contract to Develop Sensor Test Capability Based on the Nuclear Infrared Clutter Simulation (NICS) System

Colorado Springs, CO - 01 July 2008 -
Radiation Assured Devices™ (RAD) has been awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to develop sensor test capability based on the Nuclear Infrared Clutter Simulation (NICS) System.

"We are looking forward to demonstrating the capabilities of the Nuclear Infrared Clutter Simulation (NICS) System," said Joe Benedetto Ph.D., CTO of Radiation Assured Devices. "This is an important asset for the U.S. Department of Defense."

This NICS system is used to create dynamic infrared scenes for the testing of Focal Plane Arrays to ensure that they will meet the demands of their operational environment. Focal Plane Array test expertise has been one of several key components in the Radiation Assured Devices suite of capabilities since the company was founded in 2002. The staff of scientists at RAD each has more than 15 years experience performing radiation tests of Focal Plane Arrays and other electro-optical components in the approximately 20,000 square foot Longmire Laboratory located in Colorado Springs, CO. This lab was originally established by Mission Research Corporation (MRC) in the early 1990s and was later sold to Alliant Techsystems (ATK). Radiation Assured Devices purchased the Longmire Laboratory from ATK in January of 2007 to better serve RAD's customers. Since this purchase, RAD has increased both the capabilities as well as the capacity of this comprehensive radiation effects test and support laboratory.
